CD album ‘TUMBLEWEED AND DUST’ drops 23rd October 2020

I have been working hard on a new album of original songs for the last two years. Starting in 2018 in the midst of a difficult family situation this has been a labour of love that has got me through the passing of my younger sister in 2019 and of course the terrible pandemic that still continues.

I have explored a contemporary country sound for this album as this genre has been important to me throughout my career, and the one I find myself gravitating towards. Although I played a lot of the instruments myself - bass, acoustic/electric guitars, ukulele and sing lead and harmony vocals I engaged the talents of Steve Giddings to help me out on slide, pedal steel and dobro guitars, and the McMillan Brothers based in Nashville for banjo, fiddle and harmonica. I had a couple of songs that had been kicking around for a long time – ‘Hours and Minutes’ originally recorded on a cassette album in the 80’s and ‘Wildest Dreams’ that I had tried to record a couple of times. I re-recorded these tracks with new instruments (ukulele, banjo, dobro and slide guitars) and was finally pleased with the sound and results. The hardest song to write and record was ‘No-One (Song for Tess) as a tribute to my sister. With the help of friends, family and Facebook I got together a montage of photos and video’s (some of which I had never seen) to make a video accompanying this track also on our SonarRecordsGroup YouTube channel.

I wanted to complete the album fairly quickly and started in October 2019 starting with Jake Ingermells drumming and myself on bass guitar . We worked through November and December and my producer was getting married and wanted January off so I let him have that!! We eventually got back together in February for the vocals and mixing. COVID happened so that plan flew out of the window although I did learn to play ukulele which was a lot of fun. Josh mixed remotely sending me mixes to listen to and me sending copious notes back to him. Eventually his studio reopened and we socially distanced to approve final tracks in August 2020. The title ‘Tumbleweed and Dust’ came from a lyric in ‘Writing’s on the wall’ the song that finishes the album. One of my favourite tracks is ‘Kiss Goodbye’ and this is the lead track released as a single.

The album will be released on Spotify, iTunes and all major digital platforms on 23rd October. The physical cd album/downloads are available to purchase here on bandcamp
